Mask ~ Mfondo
Story behind the product ~ The Lwalwa are known principally for their masks, which are marked by a balanced composition of geometric surfaces. This mask represents Mfondo, whose strongly projecting triangular nose is meant to evoke the powerful bill of the hornbill. Such masks are thought to have been originally danced at initiations of adolescent boys as well as hunting and fertility rites.
